!!!LEAKED!!! ~ State Republican Party Urges Passage of County Property Accountability Policy ~ !!!LEAKED!!!

“Oklahoma Republican Party Chairman David McLain and Vice-Chair Mike Turner today issued a joint statement urging Oklahoma County officials to pass a proposed County policy for accountability over taxpayer-funded equipment being used for private gain. Oklahoma County Sheriff’s officials have opposed the policy.”

“The Sheriff has 311 vehicles, including 252 cars- more than they have employees outside the jail,”

“Getting accountability on these vehicles is critical. What if a Sheriff employee is using a County vehicle and causes an accident? Who pays for it? Questions about personal issue of county owned assets for personal gain have dogged this office for many years. The prior administration was openly hostile to taxpayers and citizens alike. With so little turnover from the prior admin, one would hope that retained knowledge of all the bad practices could at least demonstrate what NOT to do. The taxpayers are long overdue accountability out of our County Sheriff Office, not bellyaching. I fear we’ve wrapped bureaucratic empire building with a veneer of thin blue lines. ”

Breaking News! David Lane Announcement for State Chair“It is a bedrock Republican Party principle that taxpayer-funded equipment be used for public purposes, not for private gain,” said McLain. “Other jurisdictions have accountability policies in place. So should Oklahoma County.” He cited several other jurisdictions’ polcies, including:

“No County official or employee may use County property for his or her own personal use.”

Rogers County, OK

“No County official or employee may use County property for his or her own personal use or for another use not required by or consistent with or in connection with their duties with Rogers County.”

City of Moore:

“Employees shall not use city equipment and shall not permit others to use city equipment for non-city activities. “

City of Ardmore:

“Personal use of any City property, materials, supplies, tools, equipment or vehicles will not be permitted without prior permission. City vehicles will be operated at all times in conformity with state and local laws affecting their usage. However, the City retains the right to place more restrictive rules and regulations than that required by law.”
